Nitto Ridge Grappler Tires and Packing For the Zombie Apocalypse

2nd Feb 2018

Everyone needs a bug out bag. Put the terminology aside for one moment and forget about the stigma that is often associated with bug out bags. Bug out bags aren’t just for doomsday preppers who are sitting around waiting for the demise of our government or the apocalypse, they are necessary in case of a catastrophe.

There are any numbers of reasons why you need a bug out bag. For example, a natural disaster could drive you from your home and you would need to survive in the open. Now, we all know that hurricanes displace people, but so do tornadoes, earthquakes, floods and severe storms.

There are also instances in when big chunks of the electrical grid could fail and leave you without electricity for a period of time. In such a case, you will be glad you packed a bug out bag.

And of course, in the highly unlikely event of a zombie apocalypse, having a first aid kit and a water filtration system all packed away in a handy bug out bag could mean the difference between surviving or becoming a zombie kabob.

If you own a truck, you have extra space in the truck bed for a bigger bug out bag that holds even more stuff. Because in all likelihood, when a catastrophe does strike, you will take your truck to the safest place possible. People who own Hyundai Elantras are forced to leave their vehicles in the garage and hoof it to safety.

Anyway, here is a list of items you will want to ensure are packed away in your bug out bag.

Pick a Bag

The first thing you need to do is pick out the type of bag you want to use for your bug out bag. Most people will opt for a decent quality backpack as you will want something that is comfortable to wear when traveling on foot. This is a great idea, but since you have a truck, we suggest you get a large duffle bag that can be tossed in the bed. This way, you have even more stuff to bring along when your house gets uprooted and blown away by a tornado, making your survival even more of a success.

Cash

The first rule of a zombie apocalypse is that cash is king, at least until the bulk of the population is dead.

Seriously, if this is a disaster and there is no electricity, how is anybody going to swipe your debit card? And nobody takes checks anymore. For these reasons, it makes perfect sense to have a stash of cash. You could sell your truck wheels and Nitto Ridge Grappler tires you bought from BB Wheels, but then you couldn’t drive anywhere.

Shelter

The type of shelter in your bug out bag can be as fancy as a full-size tent, a couple of tarps or a box of garbage bags to keep you dry at night. What you choose to pack will depend a lot on which part of the country you live and the climate.

If you are in an area that suffers harsh winters, you will need more than just a couple of garbage bags for shelter.

Fire

You will certainly want to start a fire when you are in a survival situation, so you need something to start a fire. While a Bic lighter or waterproof matches are nice and make starting a fire rather simple, you will also want something that can produce sparks in any weather conditions. Experts on this sort of thing recommend you pack at least three methods of starting a fire.

You will also want something that will accelerate the fire. You can buy such items at a surplus store or make your own by soaking cotton balls in petroleum jelly.

Water

You will want to make sure you have as many bottles of water in your bug out bag that you can carry. And you will also want at least two types of water filtration systems as well.

While you can survive without food for weeks, you will be dead in three days without water. In addition to bottled water, you should have water purification tablets and a straw filter or other ways to filter water.

First Aid

Every bug out bag needs a well-stocked first aid kit. You can choose to buy a pre-made kit or make one up yourself. Just make sure your kit includes bandages, gauze, tape, scissors, disinfectant and tweezers.

In addition to a first aid kit, you will want to have handy any medications you or your family members are taking.

Food

One thing for sure, you will get hungry running away from zombies, so you better pack some food. This can be anything from protein bars from the store to shelf-stable food to MREs that you can buy at surplus stores.

Well, that is a good start, check back and we will continue our list of items to pack in your bug out bag.

In the meantime, check out the great selection of Fuel wheels at BB Wheels.
