Enjoy Better Handling with the Terra Garppler G2

A friend of ours recently took advantage of a balmy January day and took his beloved Corvette out for a spin. Fresh out of storage, he shifted into first gear and began to cruise down the road. As he began to pick up speed, he noticed something was not quite right. As he traveled down the road, the vette was shaking and rattling and basically knocking the fillings from his teeth. His tires had less than 1,000 miles on them and the wheels were properly balanced, so he wasn't sure what the problem was. Then it dawned on him, his vette was suffering flat spotting.

Flatspotting occurs when a tire is compressed against a hard surface over an extended period of time, like when a car is in storage. You see, the section of tire on the surface becomes softer or sometimes stiffer than the rest of the tire. Flat spots are enough to cause noticeable disturbance while the vehicle is in motion. Sometimes you will notice a difference as soon as you pull the car out of storage, but many times it is only noticeable at high rates of speed.

Though flat spots can occur on any type of tire, high performance tires are especially prone. Performance tires are engineered to maximize contact with the road, which improves handling. These types of ties are typically stiffer and softer than regular tires, which leaves them vulnerable to flat spotting.

Lucky for our friend, there are ways and products to prevent flat spotting. Keep this in mind if you plan on storing your car fitted with Terra Grappler G2 tires.
