23rd May 2017

It’s nearly summer. It’s your favorite time of year because you love to spend your days off going fishing. You love fishing. In fact, you plan your vacation destinations near places you can fish. While the wife and kids are enjoying hotel pools, shopping malls and great eateries, you are trying to catch a trophy trout.

This year is no different, you are searching for a vacation destination where all parties can do the things they enjoy. We can help. Here is a list of destinations where the activities are great and there are fishing spots to boot. Just make sure your truck is fitted with a set of Nitto Trail Grappler tires because reaching some of these fishing spots will take all the traction you can muster.

Branson, Missouri

Branson offers a wide variety of activities that the family will enjoy and won’t drain your bank account. For example, Branson Landing features an attractive boardwalk along the Taneycomo Lakefront with a breathtaking water attraction that merges fire, water, music and light. You will be amazed by the fire cannons blasting and the 120-foot geysers.

The wife and kids are sure to enjoy the Branson Centennial Museum where they will learn about the rich history of the area. This free museum features rotating exhibits depicting the Civil War, bridges, railroads, art and much more.

While you take the truck to your fishing destination, the rest of the family can hop on the free discovery trolley and check out the local landmarks and use it for travel between Branson Landing, the historic downtown area and the hotel.

As for your fishing destination, you will be driving to Table Rock Lake, which has the reputation of being one of the best bass lakes in the United States. You will spend you vacation days reeling in smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and spotted bass. Just make sure you bring live bait as locals say that works best.

Castaic Lake, California

No other lake in the United States can boast the amount of 20-plus pound bass that have been caught at Castaic Lake. Not that you will land one of these monsters, the changes are slim after all, but you will certainly give it your best shot.

And while you are trying you hook some record fish, the rest of the family will enjoy spending the day at nearby Six Flags Mountain enjoying their 42 rides, including 19 roller coasters. They can also visit the Gibbon Conservation Center and have breakfast with the Gibbons. This makes for a great start to what is sure to be a memorable day.

Green River, Utah

The green River runs through the Flaming Gorge in Utah, through Dinosaur National Monument and through the desert wilderness, passing through Green River before merging with the Colorado River. It has much to offer.

The Green River is a pristine fly fishing river with an impressive population of trout. And even though spinners and Rapalas will garner you some rainbow trout, flies work the best.

While you are mastering your fly-fishing cast, the wife and kids will be enjoying the other recreation the Green River has to offer including horseback riding, balloon flights and biking. There are also plenty of great places to eat including the Broken Oar Pub, Arches Pancake Haus and The Branding Iron.

The South Platte River

The South Platte River, especially the stretch just west of Colorado Springs, harbors a large population of both rainbow and brown trout. Fish over 10 pounds are landed here every year. Perhaps this is your year to land that 12-pound rainbow.

Even if you aren’t catching your trophy trout, the rest of the family will be thoroughly enjoying themselves in nearby Colorado Springs. Some great place to check out includes the Garden of the Gods, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and Pikes Peak. They could also visit the United States Air Force Academy, it’s a great place to see.

Ice Age Trail, Wisconsin

Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail is a 1,200-mile-long footpath that traces the remnants of what was once a great glacier. The trail is not continuous, so you will have to go off trail to find some of the better fishing spots. And even if you aren't having any luck catching fish, the sheer beauty of the landscape should be reward enough.

Nearby Madison, Wisconsin offers small town charm in a big city. There are a number of museums that make for a great family outing including the Madison Children’s Museum and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.

Madison is home to the world’s largest brat fest should you be lucky enough to visit in late May. If brats aren't your style, you can check out the Olbrich Botanical Garden or the Henry Vilas Zoo.

So pick your destination and get ready to have a great time.
