Moto Metal Wheels, Nitto Grappler Tires and Legitimate Reasons to Own a Truck

22nd Nov 2017

Some people think you need to be a contractor, rancher or construction worker to own a pickup truck. Well, that is partially true. While you don't need to have a certain type of career in order to own a pickup truck, you better have some pretty compelling reasons for owning one.

What we are trying to say is that there are some pretty good reasons for owning a pickup truck and some pretty bad reasons for owning a pickup. If you have a set of Moto Metal wheels wrapped in a set of Nitto Grappler tires from BB Wheels, that is a pretty darn good reason to buy a truck

Here are a few more acceptable reasons you can own a truck.

You Need a Truck for Work

If you are in the construction industry, it is a good idea to own a truck. It just doesn't make any sense hauling around heavy boxes of nails, a plethora of tools and 2x4s in a Hyundai Elantra. Look, it would be an embarrassment of your were to show up to work in anything but a pickup truck.

Construction isn't the only job where owning a truck is almost a necessity. If you own a farm or ranch, a pickup truck is the backbone of your existence. If you plow snow in the winter and do landscaping in the summer, you need a reliable pickup truck. After all, you would look pretty silly getting stuck plowing snow in a two-wheel drive car.

Haul Stuff

If you haul a lot of stuff, it is a good reason to own a truck. Trucks are great for hauling stuff to the dump, to the worksite and to your grandmother’s house. So if you own a truck because you haul stuff, we salute your good decision making.

Tow Things

If you tow things like boats, trailers and campers, then is it quite acceptable that you own a truck. Trucks are the way to go if you are towing your boat to the lake, your camper to a campsite or a trailer full of garbage to the landfill.

In fact, there are many cars that are not capable of towing anything bigger than a small trailer with a lawnmower on it. And even then they might scrape the bottom of their car backing into a driveway with a dip.

Off-Road Driving

If you enjoy off-road driving, then it is just fine that you own a truck. Trucks were built to conquer rough terrain and they do it much better than any car.

As you can plainly see, there are several legitimate and good reasons to own a truck. But what is unfortunate is when you see somebody driving a truck who should obviously be driving something else, like a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry. And it is these people who give pickup owners a bad rap.

For example, if you see a truck all decked out with a lot of chrome accessories, multiple light bars and bling hanging off the rearview mirror, that is a red flag. A truck looks good on its own, it really doesn’t need a whole lot of bells and whistles. What really makes a truck look nice is a set of custom wheels.

A pickup truck that is over-accessorized is an embarrassment to the truck community and the owner of such a truck should feel ashamed.

Another red flag is when you see a truck that is sparkly clean, suspiciously clean. You see, trucks are utilitarian vehicles by design, they are built to take on trails, tow stuff and haul stuff, which means they will get dirty. A truck that isn't dirty, even just a little, is usually driven by a fool who spends more time preening his truck than actually putting it to good use. This is a waste of a good truck and should not be tolerated.

Another sign of a truck owner undeserving of the title is the guy who has a fancy trailer hitch. A tow hitch is not an ornament, nor is it something that needs to be blinged up for everybody to gawk at. If you are afraid to tow anything with your truck because you are afraid it might damage your fancy trailer hitch, sell the truck right away and buy a car.

Anyway, before you go out and buy a truck for the right reasons, there are a few things you need to know. Trucks aren’t as easy to own as one might think. So plan carefully.

Everybody Owns a Truck

OK, not EVERYBODY owns a truck, but the majority of drivers in America sure do. In recent years, trucks have climbed to the top of the list of popularity. That is, more people buy trucks than they buy cars.

There was a time, not all that long ago, when owning any kind of truck would set you apart from the crowd. But times are changing and now you can't drive down your neighborhood streets without spotting a truck in nearly every driveway.

This is probably why custom truck wheels are such a huge seller, because it is the best way to seat your truck apart from the others.

The Have a Great Thirst

Even when your truck isn't hauling something or towing something, it still has a great thirst for petroleum. Let’s face it, if you wish for an economical vehicle, you should consider the Ford Fusion over a pickup truck.

If you are ready to pull the trigger on a pickup truck for the first time, remember that it costs more to fill the tank and your gas mileage won't be quite as good as it was in your Hyundai Elantra.

They Require a Lot of Space

Trucks are big. And while we are stating the obvious, there are a few things to consider when buying a big truck. If you own an older home, there is a possibility your truck won’t fit in the garage. You see, back in the day, garages were built with cars in mind because nobody owned trucks in the city. So don't be surprised if you have to park your truck in the driveway.

The parking spaces at your place of work and the places you shop are rather small. They are big enough to fit a car, but you might have a tough time squeezing your truck between the Camry and the Murano. So you should get used to parking your truck in the back of the lot where there is more room.

They Are Expensive

The price of your basic pickup with no frills is going to be more than many cars. And if you opt for the heated leather seats, 200-watt stereo system and backup camera, it will cost you even more.

While it is nice that pickup trucks now come with all the luxurious options cars have, it will add to your total cost. Of course, many of you will think it is totally worth it.

Your Friends Won’t Stop Calling You

If you own a pickup truck, your friends who own puny cars will be calling you all of the time wanting you to help them move or help them take stuff to the landfill. And when their car breaks down, they will call you to see if you can tow them to the nearest mechanic.

And while you don't mind helping a friend in need, you don't want to spend every weekend helping somebody move or taking their old couch to the dump.

You could gently suggest they buy a truck, but these are car owners and they just don't understand.

If you own a truck, we do hope you own one for all of the right reasons. And if you just bought a truck and discovered that it blends in with all of the other trucks on the road, pay a visit to BB Wheels and check out their awesome collection of custom wheels.
