Fuel Wheels and Road Trips

10th May 2017

Even if you have lived in America your entire life, it is highly likely that you have only seen a small part of our great nation. And when traveling domestically, we tend to take the interstates and skip the off-the-beaten-path destinations and head directly to highly populated cities.

This is really a shame because you are missing out on the opportunity to see the surreal, the beautiful and the awe-inspiring places that actually exist. After all, wouldn't you rather eat at a sketchy barbecue joint in nowhere Mississippi or see just what is happening in Pillsbury (population-12), North Dakota than shop at a mall in Chicago or Houston?

Driving across the country allows you to experience all that America has to offer. It will also make you appreciate your hometown a whole lot more as well, especially after visiting Pillsbury, ND.

Unfortunately, the time of road trips has come and past us by. Most people would rather hop on a plane and nap or Netflix while traveling to their boring destination. Sure, your trip might last mere hours as opposed to wasting days in a truck, but just think about all that you miss.

Look, you have a truck, you have a great set of Fuel wheels and you have GPS, that’s really all you need to drop everything for a few weeks and take an epic road trip. Need more reasons? We have several.

Anxiety Levels Stay Low

You could take a plane to your destination, but you might be the type who suffers anxiety. Not everybody enjoys flying. In fact, we would be hard-pressed to find many people who admit that they love to fly.

If you have flown a lot, it is quite likely that you have had at least once bad experience. Whether you had to deal with a screaming kid in front of you, a crazy person behind you or a rude flight attendant, there are reasons to skip out on this experience.

Besides, the airline could lose your luggage or could bump you for whatever reason and totally ruin your trip. It does happen you know.

Be a True Explorer

If you want to really enjoy this country, go out and see it the way you are supposed to, by driving it. Only when you take the open road can you truly call yourself an explorer or an adventurist.

True explorers find new adventures with every missed turn and wrong route, they make the best out of a shortcut that leads nowhere. Be an adventurist who sleeps in their truck and converses with locals at park benches and isn't afraid to eat something that may be related to squirrels.

Don’t just talk the talk, go full Lewis and Clark.

Awesome Music

Whenever you watch a movie and there is a scene of a road trip, awesome music is always involved. That’s because music is an integral part of any road trip. Whether you bring along good music to play or you feel adventurous and take a stab listening to local radio stations, the music you hear adds so much to the overall experience.

Be warned, if you rely on only a radio for music, be prepared to hear a whole lot of country western music. There are spots all over this country where you can only tune in about a dozen stations at a time and nine of them will be country, two will be religious and one will be NPR.

Nobody Tells You What to Do

Aside from the cop in Pillsbury, ND who said you couldn’t use the bushes because the port-a-potty was occupied, nobody tells you what to do on a road trip.

You have the freedom to go where you wish, sleep where you want and eat what you want. Your schedule is pretty much up to you and is actually quite liberating.

Time To Think

If you are taking a road trip on your own, you will have plenty of time to gather your thoughts. Long drives are good for many things, one of them is time to do some serious thinking.

A road trip is a great time to be alone with your thoughts and dive into a little introspection. Being trapped in your busy life makes it hard to sort through your thoughts sometimes. A road trip gives you the opportunity for much-needed reflection.

You're Not Getting Any Younger

It’s all too easy to get caught up in work, home life and other activities and realize that you have fallen into a rut, and you have aged a lot since the last time you did something off the charts.

You have discovered that as you age, you have become a little crabbier, a little more cautious about certain activities and a bit less fun. You are in the prime of your life and you are on cruise control. How sad is that?

So drop everything and go on a road trip!
