Fuel Wheels and Earning a Bachelor's Degree

22nd Aug 2017

Going back to school can mean so many things. If you are a parent, it could mean sending your children back for another year of elementary school and enjoying peaceful days once again. If you are a college student, it means one more year of long research papers, reading extraordinarily dry books by Marcel Proust and tailgating at football games.

But back to school could also mean you take that huge leap from an ordinary guy who barely squeaked through high school to the smart dude who now has a college degree.

It’s really not as bad of an idea as you might think.

We understand your hatred of school, getting smart is hard work to be sure, but there are just too many benefits to pass up such an opportunity. If you are considering going back to school to better yourself, here are a few reasons why it is a good idea and reasons to be excited about going back to school.

Use Your Brain Again

When was the last time you really applied your brain power in a particular situation? Helping your kid with his 3rd-grade math doesn’t count.

It might sound a bit lame, but we are totally serious. Your mind could use a little responsibility. After all, you have spent the last several years watching silly television shows, playing Candy Crush and mindlessly washing your Fuel wheels.

Intelligent Conversations

Let’s face it, your home is a bubble and your place of work is a stereotypical melting pot of dissatisfied, bored wannabes. Your conversations at home consist of telling your kid for the 100th time to eat his vegetables, clean his room and reasons why it’s not cool to tease the family cat.

The conversations you have with your wife aren't any more interesting as they consist of her telling you what you can’t buy and you arguing the point with useless bits of information and fake news. It goes something like this:

You- “Honey, I need a new set of truck wheels.”

Her- “ We can't afford it right now.”

You- “But there was a study that claimed the United States economy is based in large part on the sales of truck wheels. Therefore, buying a set of truck wheels is basically like feeding poor children.”

Her- “Go to your room and think about what you just said.”

Higher Earning Potential

If you want a new set of truck wheels, going back to school is the place to start. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median weekly earnings for those with a Bachelor’s Degree was nearly $1,100. The median salary for someone with a high school diploma was just $650.00 a week. Just think about all of the cool things you can buy with that extra cash. Plus, you can get braces for the daughter.

Get a Promotion

Making more money is great, but finally getting that promotion you have desired for so long is just as sweet. You have been up against younger, educated professionals for a long time and watched them as they passed you on the corporate ladder.

Get your Bachelor’s Degree and stop having to look up to those younger than you.

Career Change

If you are at a dead-end company with a dead-end job, getting your Bachelor’s Degree means you can totally change careers. It’s about time to find a career where you can grow personally, professionally and utilize your skills and knowledge.

Personal Achievement

It’s nice to make a lot of money, but you should also go back to school for personal achievement. You should have this desire to become a better person, for you and for your family.

Improve Self-Esteem

The world is cold and hard and it will beat you down one way or another. But going back to school can help you see yourself as something more than a slave to your job. Earning a Bachelor’s Degree boosts your self-esteem and gives you the courage to move beyond the place you are stuck right now.

Set A Good Example

If none of these reasons are settling in, then consider going back to school nor for you, but for your family. Going back to school puts you in a different light; your kids and your wife will look up to you and admire your sacrifice.
